Teaching sustainable life skills and offering shelter from abuse and neglect.
Since our inception in 1974, the Ellen Hines Smith Girls' Home has been a safe haven of care and compassion offering around-the-clock care for girls who have experienced abuse or neglect.
Today, Ellen Hines Smith Girls' Home improves safety and success for girls and for families. For girls, this continues to be done through around-the-clock care. For families, skilled staff offer support and teaching in the family's home so that more children are able to live safely with their family and thrive. Both programs utilize the best-practice model known as Teaching-Family and focus on building key skills that lead to future success and sustainability for children and families.
While at the Girls' Home, trained staff help each girl learn how to trust, teach key social and life skills, and provide the necessary support for girls to make academic progress and set long-term goals for their lives.
Some girls stay with us for three months. Some girls stay for many years. The girls in our care have some amazing success stories!
